Last updated: May 2026. Plain English version of how we handle the data you give us.
Who we are
We Buy Your Tech is an IT equipment buyer based in Shropshire. The data controller is Tom Congreve. Contact: tom@webuyyourtech.com.
What data we collect
When you fill in the form on this site:
- Your name, email and (optionally) phone number
- Your message about what equipment you're looking to dispose of
- Your business or organisation name if you choose to share it
- Your IP address and browser metadata, captured automatically by Cloudflare for security and analytics
If we go on to do business together, we collect the asset information needed to process your kit (serial numbers, models) and your bank details for payment.
Why we collect it
- To respond to your enquiry and provide an estimate (legitimate interest)
- To collect, wipe and pay for your equipment if you go ahead (contract)
- To produce the wipe certificate and chain-of-custody record (contract + legal obligation)
- To comply with our tax and accounting obligations (legal obligation)
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data. We share it only with:
- Cloudflare (form delivery and site infrastructure)
- Google Workspace (email)
- Our accountant (for tax records, where relevant)
- A licensed destruction partner (only for damaged drives, only the asset details, never your contact data)
- HMRC and other authorities if legally required
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don't lead to business: deleted within 12 months
- Customer records (for completed jobs): kept 6 years for tax purposes, then deleted
- Wipe certificates and chain-of-custody records: kept 6 years for audit purposes, then deleted
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can:
- Ask what data we hold about you
- Ask us to correct it if it's wrong
- Ask us to delete it (subject to legal retention requirements above)
- Object to processing
- Withdraw consent for marketing at any time (just reply "unsubscribe")
Email tom@webuyyourtech.com for any of the above and we'll respond within 30 days.
Cookies
This site uses Cloudflare's standard infrastructure cookies for security and bot protection. We don't use marketing or tracking cookies. We don't run third-party analytics that profile you.
Complaints
